Battle of Arnhem John Hackett Montage

A framed Royal Mail first day cover commemorating 50 th Anniversary of “The Battle of Arnhem – Operation Market Garden”, 17 th September 1994. The cover was flown on Hercules XV305 of 47 Squadron with a full complement of paratroopers who dropped at Arnhem on the 1th September 1994.

The cover is signed by Brigadier John Hackett who commanded 4 th Parachute Brigade at Arnhem.

Mounted with a picture of a British C47 Dakota making a drop over one of the landing zones.

Royal Air Force 50th Anniversary Rod Learoyd Montage.

A framed Royal Mail first day cover commemorating 50 th Anniversary of the Royal Air Force.

The cover is signed by Wing Commander Roderick Alastair Brook Learoyd, VC (5 February 1913 – 24 January 1996) was a Royal Air Force bomber pilot and recipient of the Victoria Cross.

He was awarded his Victoria Cross while flying a Handley Page Hampden to destroy a canal aqueduct over the river Emms near Munster on the night of 12th August 1940.

The picture mounted with this FDC depicts Learoyd in his Hampden on this raid.

First Flight of the Handley Page Halifax 1939 James Tait Montage.

A framed Royal Mail first day cover commemorating the first flight of the Handley Page Halifax on the 25 th October 1939. The cover was flown from RAF Abingdon on 9 th March 1984 on a test flight aboard Lancaster PA474 of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

Signed by Group Captain James Brian "Willie" Tait, DSO & Three Bars, DFC & Bar (9 December 1916 – 31 August 2007) was an officer in the Royal Air Force during and after the Second World War. He conducted 101 bombing missions during the war, including the one that finally sank the German battleship Tirpitz in 1944. He succeeded Leonard Cheshire as commander of the famous 617 Squadron and, with six gallantry decorations to his name, remains one of the most distinguished airmen in the history of the nations of the British Commonwealth.
