HMS Argyll

HMS Argyll in a ferocious storm, 1909. I believe that this is an original retouched photograph of the ship with the sea, sky and smoke added by hand. This process was very popular in the late 19th early 20th centuries.

Please note that the photograph has been laid on to a backing board, this is original to the period, and I have added a mount over the top which is stuck to the original backing.

"Yenikale"

A 19th Century French hand coloured engraving depicting a flotilla of Anglo-French ships occupying a town and destroying Russian ships. May 1855 during the Crimean War. Yenikale was originally a Turkish Fort built in 1699 when the Crimea was under the rule of the Ottoman Empire . Yenikale means New Fortress in Turkish.
