James E. Swett Congressional Medal Of Honor (1920 - 2009)

A very nice signed photograph of US Marine pilot James Swett stood in front of a Vought F4U Corsair. Earlier in the war he flew the F4 Wildcat as depicted in the print above. James Swett was awarded America's highest honour, The Congressional Medal of Honor, on the 7th April 1943 while flying with VMF 221 off the Solomon Islands. He led a section of 4 fighters into action against 15 enemy bombers and personally shot down 7 despite his aircraft being damaged and his face slashed by an exploding windscreen. He finally brought his plane down in the water off Tulagi without further injury.
